Provenance

Starflower

Starflower (also known as borage) is the lead botanical in our gin. Borage plays a pivotal role in boosting biodiversity health and soil health - its deep roots help break up compacted earth and draw up nutrients to support the crops that follow.

Bees

Starflower is also a powerful pollinator magnet, with nectar-rich blooms that continuously feed the bees. We've partnered with local beekeepers who move their hives in sync with the flowering cycle of our borage. As the fields blooms, the hives follow, creating a rich foraging environment for bees that directly supports local honey production and overall bee health.

When the borage flowers, the whole field hums.

There’s a moment in a Suffolk summer when you hear it before you see it, a low, steady hum as bees move between the blue flowers in the morning light.

Borage is one of the most generous pollinator plants in British farming, producing nectar throughout its short life. At Coblands, that means bees, bumblebees and other insects arrive in huge numbers.

Those bees don’t stay put. They spread out across the Suffolk countryside, feeding hedgerows and wildflowers for miles around. A field of borage in bloom gives back far beyond the farm.

That’s why it’s planted. The gin is just the bonus.
